What Guilty Pleasure Foods Can I Give My Dog?

5 mins |

Does your dog love to snack on anything you eat? I know mine does. It stares at me with its puppy-dog eyes, begging to have a bite of whatever food I am eating. But are there any foods you can give a dog like this? In other words, what guilty pleasure foods can you give your dog?

There are several guilty pleasure foods you can give your dog. They include a plain burger, baked goods, pancakes, french toast, granola bars, pasta, bacon, and popcorn. Make sure these foods have no ingredients that are toxic to dogs, though, and always consult with your veterinarian prior to making any changes to your dog’s diet.

What Are Some Guilty Pleasure Food I Can Give My Dog?

Your dog will run for these foods.

We’ve made a list of the eight guilty pleasure food your dog is safe to consume. We didn’t want to include anything on the list that might cause gastrointestinal problems, which is why we kept it short. Also, always double-check the ingredients included in any of these foods, and always consult with your veterinarian prior to making any changes to your dog’s diet.

With that said, let’s see what dogs can eat.

Burger

Yes, a plain burger. Just make sure it’s saltless, has no onions, no garlic, and has no fatty spread. You’ll also want to cook it.

Baked Goods

You finally baked the recipe sitting in your saved recipes folder. And there it is, your dog with its puppy eyes right below you, waiting for a bite. And what do you think? Is it safe to give them any baked goods? Of course, it is, as long as it contains dog-safe ingredients.

Also, when it comes to baked goods, it’s safe to say that dogs can eat bread as well. So, the next time you see the dog circulating like crazy, give them a bite or two from that piece of bread.

Pancakes

There is nothing better in the whole world than waking up to the sweet taste of pancakes on a Sunday morning, the maple syrup, and freshly baked bacon on a plate nearby waiting to be poured all over the warm bowl of pancakes.

Luckily, your dog gets to enjoy this amazing guilty pleasure with you, but only on a given occasion and in moderation.

But, if the dog suffers from allergies or has a sensitive stomach, please avoid giving pancakes at all costs.

French Toast

Another food you can enjoy with your dog is french toast. If you give in to the temptation of eating something fatty yet overly delicious every once in a while, don’t be afraid to share it with your dog too. Dogs can eat a bite or two from your freshly made french toast.

Just prepare it with extra care, and do not add anything that contains xylitol, as it’s toxic to dogs. Studies show that ingesting doses of >0.1 g/kg of xylitol can develop hypoglycemia.

Granola Bars

Granola bars are safe for your dog to consume. If you are trying to get into that healthy lifestyle as summer comes near, there is a high chance that homemade granola bars are the only guilty pleasure around the house.

If you decide to give your dog some granola bars, make sure it’s additives-free and has no artificial sweeteners. Stevia is the only natural sweetener that’s safe for dogs.

Pasta

If you are a pasta lover, good news for you, it’s safe for a dog to consume pasta, but only in moderation. Cook the pasta, give it plain to your dog, and then add the white pasta sauce to make it even more tempting for you.

Just make sure not to include garlic or onions in the dog’s portion of the pasta, as both are extremely toxic to dogs

Bacon

Another guilty pleasure food on the list. Bacon is one of the fattiest foods listed here, and while it’s not the best to give your dog, a small bite to satisfy that curious face is more than enough.

But promise us that you’ll give the dog only a bite, not a whole piece of bacon, as it’s not only high in fats but also has high levels of sodium, which of course, aren’t good for the dog.

Popcorn

Popcorn is yet another guilty-like pleasure food you can give your dog. Imagine this, popcorn, movie night, and the dog by your side. Nothing sounds better than this.

But, if you share a couple of popcorn with your dog, do it without adding extra salt, spices, and butter.

Which Human Foods Are Off-Limits to Dogs?

There are foods that dogs can eat and those that need to be kept far away from dogs.

But which foods are those?

Let’s find out.

Cherries

Cherries not only contain a hardened pit, but also they contain cyanide, which is extremely toxic to dogs.

Cinnamon

Although it’s not a toxic spice, ingesting large quantities can lead to vomiting and even diarrhea.

Nuts

Nuts are definitely on the blacklist for dogs. Not only do they cause choking, but also some nuts are toxic to dogs, like macadamia nuts.

Bread Dough

We mentioned that the bread is safe to consume and not toxic to dogs. But that doesn’t refer to bread dough. If ingested, the yeast in the dough expands in the dog’s stomach, which causes bloating.

Refrain from getting confused if you see the cooking dog on TikTok. It’s just a video which we are sure it’s filmed with the ultimate precaution.
